Welcome to the Cardwell Family Website Project! As you move around this site you'll discover that we have the largest amount of Cardwell family information on the internet. I've been researching the Cardwell family since 1985 and have amassed a substanial amount of data concerning several lines. I decided to start compiling the information into book form to assist present and future Cardwell researchers in 2002. That effort has produced three books on the family. All of my more recent research is listed on the this website and is available to any Cardwell researcher that has a need for it.
I’ve been developing a comprehensive database of the family. It is identfied by the findings that have been determined through the Cardwell DNA Project. So far, I’ve documented the majority of Cardwell Line I , Line II, and Line III. Those databases can be viewed on Ancestry.com (this is a pay for service website, but is the largest genealogical site on the Internet). Dozens of Cardwell researchers have contibuted to the work, adding old photographs, family stories, and other source documents, all of which help to add to the overall story of our family. UPDATE: August 2009 - We have just received the DNA test results of a living descendant of John Franklin Cardwell (b. 1800 in SC or NC, d. 1877 in Shelby Co, AL) - We can now place them into the Cardwell Line II in the Ancestry.com database. We’ve waited over three years for one of the “Bama Boys” to take part in the project and are excited about their results. Another update is we’ve moved our DNA project to this website from the free one provided by worldfamilies.com. Their site crashed and their programmer has not been able to resolve the issue in over three weeks. We’ll actually be able to maintain the DNA results easier from this website.
The profits from the books help to fund this website and my research, which is on the entire Cardwell Family of America. If you have interest in a particular branch that is in one of the books, but cannot afford one, please contact me and I will provide you with the information that you need on your specific line.
Be sure to check back often.
