“I was borned December 12 1844 in Smith Co. Tennessee about 12 miles Nortth of Carthage which is the county seat, and about 4 miles North of Horse Shoe Bend in the Coumblin River and about one mile east of Defected Springs.     My father was Henry M Cornwell. He died in his 26 year at the place of my birth, and was the son of Fuscher C Cornwell who owned a large tracks of land and many slaves in his days   My Mothers name was Juda Cadwell (sic Cardwell) daughter of Anderson and Elizabeth Cadwell (sic Cardwell). Before my birth there was born to my father and mother two children one boy and one girl the boys name was William the two died as well as my father and Mother before I can remember. My Father and Sister is buried in Smith Co. Tennessee. My Mother and brother and a half or two years after my father death in Tennessee. My mothers Father and mother Which was my Grand Parents took me to raise as one of the family. In the year of 1853 or 4 my Grandfather Cadwell (sic Cardwell) died and I was left to care for my Grandmother with two other Grandchildren and one adopted boy and three of her own. Onley a few years had passed away until she was about destitute of this worlds goods, but like one of those good and faithfull Mothers she toiled unflinching on and on until she had acomplished the end for which God had Spared her life and then peacfully went to her reward the reward of all Mothers. The last time I  saw her was when she stood in the chimney corner out side of the house on a bitter winter cold morning and bid me good by saying that I shall never see you again. In less than two weeks I heard she was dead and buried.” by Lenander Henry Cornwell. Son fo Henry M. Cornwell and Juda Cardwell. Grandson of Anderson Cardwell and Elizabeth Robinson.
