Perrin Cardwell of Claiborne County, Tennessee - Father of the Unsolved Cardwell Family?
by Rand Cardwell - 09Dec06
Perrin Cardwell - is the oldest documented child of John Cardwell and Mary Royall of Claiborne County, Tenneessee. According to census records, Perrin was born between 1780-1790 in Virginia. Perrin Cardwell "removed" to West Tennessee according to Judge P.G. Fulkerson, a early county historian in Claiborne County.. He is listed in the 1830 census of Claiborne County, TN with what appears to be his mother in his home. Also, possibly Sarah, his youngest sister and two young girls whose relationship is undetermined. Perrin Cardwell is listed as a roadhand in numerous Claiborne County, TN Court records (1804-1816). It is unknown if Perrin ever married or had any children, but there are a number of Cardwells that can be found in neighoring Grainger County, Tennessee that can not be linked to any of the docuemented families in the area.
The descendants of Mary Eglantine Cardwell Hill, wife of Abel Hill of Grainger County, Tennessee and Union County, Illinois, state that Mary was the daughter of Perrin Cardwell. Research in the Grainger County Cardwell groups, which includes the Rev. Perrin Cardwell of Grainger and Knox Counties, Tennessee, have all proven negative. There remains the possibility that Mary was the daughter of this Perrin Cardwell. Click here for an article on Mary E. Cardwell and the Unsolved Cardwell family of Grainger County, Tennessee. If this can be proven, then the there will be several additional Cardwell ancestors added as descendants of Perrin. More research is needed..
Perrin Cardwell is listed in numerous Claiborne County, Tennessee records. Below are several that are offered here for research purposes.
