1766-67 – Thomas Cardwell married Obedience Thweatt, daughter of Henry Thweatt and possibly a Miss Giles, probably in Dinwiddie County, VA. There is no known record of this marriage, but Obedience can be determined as a Thweatt in later court documents. The exact date of this marriage is not known. It is assumed to be a year or two prior to the birth of their presumed oldest son, William Cardwell, in 1767.

1767 Dec. 14 William Cardwell, apparent oldest child of Thomas Cardwell and Obedience Thweatt, is born in Dinwiddie County, VA. From the records of Robert Buntin.

1782 Giles M. Cardwell, apparent youngest child of Thomas Cardwell and Obedience Thweatt, is born in Dinwiddie County, VA.

1789 – It appears that Thomas Cardwell, husband of Obedience Thweatt, has died by this date. His children; William, Henry, Jane and Elizabeth Cardwell file suit against their mother, Obedience Thweatt Cardwell, and grandfather, Henry Thweatt, concerning the estate. This occurs in Dinwiddie County Court in 1789. There are a number of other suits against Obedience Thweatt Cardwell and Henry Thweatt that concern the estate of Thomas Cardwell, dec’d. They all occur in 1789, which I feel indicates that Thomas Cardwell died in 1788 or 89. More research is needed.
